Vacation Details….on Cortneybre!

Hello friends! I’ve returned from vacation and I’m happy to be back in the blogging world! We had a fabulous time on vacation and I did want to share just a little about our travels!

But first…a disclaimer….*Once I unplugged, I decided to take a vacation from blogging too and didn’t take any outfit pictures during vacation that will be featured on the blog. Let’s just say my plans to look fabulous and coordinated every day while traveling foreign countries and living out of my suitcase didn’t work out. More importantly, I wanted to live in the moment and enjoy my time away so I actually didn’t photograph a lot period.

Hey mon! This was as fashionable as I got on vacation! Total relaxation!

Now to share some of the highlights!

My family and I took a Western Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean’s ship, Oasis of the Seas. Although, we’ve decided we prefer Disney Cruise Lines to Royal Caribbean, we had a great time and the excursions were fabulous!

Labadee, Haiti 2

Labadee, Haiti

1st Stop: Labadee, Haiti

Royal Caribbean actually leases the port of Labadee from Haiti and it serves as the ship’s private resort area. Once docked, we were there for the day and it was absolutely beautiful! Lush foliage, spectacular mountains and glittering blue waters welcomed us to this port. We lounged beachside, swam (even though you had to be mindful of unfriendly jellyfish) and enjoyed the beautiful beach area!

2nd Excursion: Falmouth, Jamaica

Yeah Mon…this was my FAVE stop! Oh the beauties of Jamaica!

Falmouth, Jamaica

Our excursion was wonderful. We were whisked away to a private beach area known as the Bamboo Beach Club. The tour groups were small and our tour guides were fantastic! During our journey to the Beach Club, they regaled us with historical facts about the area and taught us a little of the dialect. We quickly learned that in Jamaica, “there are no problems, only situations”!

Falmouth, Jamaica – My daughter screaming I’m free as she runs down the beach at Bamboo Beach Club!

After arriving at the Beach Club we were immediately provided refreshments, including beer, wine, and lots of rum! (if I never drink any more rum it will be too soon….Let’s say I almost over indulged). The beach…was heaven. No crowds, no distractions…just warm sand and warm water lapping at the shore to a reggae beat. Truly paradise!  Check out the Bamboo Beach Club Jamaica!

Final Excursion: Tulum, Mexico

I just love Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It’s such an interesting and beautiful area and unrivaled in beauty and history. I’m a major archaeology buff and an excursion to Tulum was a must for me! The ship offered excursions to Chichen itza (a larger temple site) also but I’d actually visited a few years ago and opted for the smaller ruins of Tulum instead.

Welcome to Tulum!

After taking a VERY rocky tender from the ship, we boarded a bus for Tulum. The archaeological ruins of Tulum sit directly on the ocean and there is a beautiful and picturesque beach area that is offered as part of your park ticket. T

The ruins are fascinating and I happily wandered about, snapping pictures and examining the site. I’ve studied the Toltec and Mayan people quite a bit so this was quite the treat for me.

I will say I was a teensy bit disappointed that we didn’t swim at the beaches of the archaeological ruins.

However, we did travel to a wonderful beachside resort located in the city of Tulum called Azulik. Yet another picturesque and beautiful beachside rendezvous! There we were served lunch and lounged by the ocean on the powdery white sands of the Gulf of Mexico.

This resort was GORGEOUS! Very laid back and very natural. If not for the rocky tender ride back to the ship and having to transfer buses mid-trip due to a mechanical issue, I would have voted this my fave spot!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my little travel review! I can’t wait to get back to sharing my Outfit of the Day and will post a new outfit tomorrow! I’m also so happy to post some of the blogger awards I’ve recently received and I’ll post those over the next two weeks! What a lucky girl am I!

Lilly Pulitzer Dress + Kate Spade Straw Bag = Leaving for my cruise!!

Bon voyage, my friends!

Well you know it’s cruise and beach time when I bring out the Lilly Pulitzer!  This will be my last post before the cruise and it’s a casual one. Sooo casual in fact that I’ve actually been stopped several times at work today and specifically asked why I’m so casual!

Sheesh!..as if I’m wearing jeans or something! Guess it’s the flip flop sandals…this is what happens when you live in heels. :)

I’ll keep this post short and sweet as I’m working on last minute, pre-departure packing and such.

The dress is a Lilly Pulitzer (similar here), sandals by Dexter (similar here) and bag by Kate Spade (similar here and here )!

Can’t wait to post cruise and vacation pictures upon my return! Until then…xx…Cortneybre…

Sheer lace…a Kimono jacket trend…

So, I bought this beautiful lace kimono jacket yesterday.  I just fell in love with its sheer beauty and intricate patterns.

This piece was actually bought to wear with a cute pair of scalloped edged shorts during my cruise next week.  While gathering an outfit for today’s post, I just couldn’t resist incorporating the kimono into the look.

Therefore, what was to be casual day number 2, became dressy day number 1.

I must also share that I bought a long, floral print kimono yesterday as well.

It’s fantastic.

I’d been wondering about all the hype with the kimono-look. I will say that for the short period of time I had it on, I felt ultimately feminine and sexy….and I was wearing it just inside my house so imagine wearing it out!

It is an intimate look…as if I was interrupted during my leisure activities and popped on the closest silky thing that was hanging within reach. It adds a little bit of mystery to one’s reputation…

Till tomorrow, dear readers…xx..Cortneybre..

Gingham Girl..A Casual Monday Post…

Happy Casual Monday!

I say Casual Monday because it’s a short week for me and I plan on being a bit casual all week. Short week, you may ask? Yes…because I leave for a MUCH needed cruise with my hubby and daughter on Saturday. We’ll be gone ten days and I just can’t wait!

Skirt: Gap (old but love this one from Boden); Shirt: Old Navy (old but love this JCREW shirt also); Heels: Franco Sarto (Old but love these by Vince Camuto); Bag: Kate Spade (Sold out but dying for this Michael Kors!); Sunnies: Franco Sarto.

Honestly, cruise preparation has been the main cause of my not posting as much as usual on the blog. This is because any sort of event involving wearing a bathing suit causes my body to literally turn to mush (I’m fabulously fit the rest of the time..wink, wink).

Due to the mush effect, I’ve spent quite a bit of time working out twice as much as usual, dreaming about cupcakes and other sweets that I cannot have and checking my mush to see if it’s returned to its former firm state. This is quite the time-consuming process.

I do hope to make up for it though with lots of fun posts detailing my cruise adventures! Stay tuned for future cruise inspired posts!

Now…back to my casual Monday outfit.

I paired one of my fave Old Navy, blue gingham, button up shirts with an orange skirt from the Gap. To avoid being too casual, I added my Franco Sarto leather heels, my fave Kate Spade leather bag and a necklace and belt from JCREW.

When picking out a skirt to wear with this shirt, I referred to my color wheel and matched two colors opposite of each other. Wanna learn more about using a color wheel, check out my prior post here!

Hope your week is off to a great start! Xx..Cortneybre…

A Pink Suit….

Necklace: Cara  Jacket/pants: Ralph Lauren  Blouse: Gap  Sunnies: Franco Sarto Heels: Rampage
Watch/Clutch: Kate Spade NY

Hello dear readers! Hope you’re having a great Wednesday!

My post today is one of my fave’s so far! I have been searching for a pink pants suit for months….and I do mean months. You’d think this is something that one could easily find?! But, that evidently isn’t the case.

After multiple internet searches, I must admit Google let me down. I could find nothing that resembled what I was seeking.

I decided to turn to my trusted and beloved friend, eBAY and after a few weeks of watching, waiting and running the same key word search “women’s pink pant suit”, I stumbled upon the wonderful suit I have on today.

Necklace: Cara Jacket/pants: Ralph Lauren Blouse: Gap Sunnies: Franco Sarto Heels: Rampage Watch/Clutch: Kate Spade NY

Necklace: Cara  Jacket/pants: Ralph Lauren  Blouse: Gap  Sunnies: Franco Sarto  Heels: Rampage
Watch/Clutch: Kate Spade NY

The suit is silk, fully lined and by Ralph Lauren. And the BEST part….it was only $19.95!!! What a steal!

I couldn’t wait to debut it today on the blog…and I am aware that it needs hemming and a few other tweeks but I was too excited to delay. I have plans for it too. BIG plans…involving a lace or feather, poofy brooch, which I hope to be making shortly…trust me…it’ll be fabulous. I’d really like to pair it with a lovely pale green shirt or perhaps a pale, light pink one too. Keep an eye out for future posts!

I’m so excited that I found what I was looking for and at such a great price!

Tip: if you’re ever looking to recreate a look you like or searching for a specific item, always check your options on eBAY. I find that key word searches will typically result in a variety of choices.

Keep your key word searches simple, typically “Brand+Color+Clothing Item+Size+Woman” is as specific as you should go. For this search I used, “Pink Pant Suit Woman Size X” (I inserted my size but I’m not sharing!). Always remember to check the eBAY seller’s feedback before purchasing to ensure there are no negative remarks.

The Power of Peplum…

Peplum top: Cynthia Rowley Necklace: Chloe+Isabel Skirt: Ann Taylor LOFT Shoes: ColeHaan Nike Air Watch: Kate Spade Bag: Kate Spade Sunnies: UnionBay

Peplum top: Cynthia Rowley  Necklace: Chloe+Isabel  Skirt: Ann Taylor LOFT  Shoes: ColeHaan Nike Air
Watch: Kate Spade  Bag: Kate Spade  Sunnies: UnionBay

I just love peplum tops. I don’t care if they go out of style….I’m still wearing them. If only for the way they define your waist and cover any little extra tummy you may have. If peplum could talk it would say, “it’s ok that you ate that extra cupcake today…you’ve got me to cover you up and you look great”!

Today’s post was actually taken a couple of weeks ago but never posted as I was too busy to blog. Sad…yeah…I know… Thankfully, I was able to work on blogging this week and post it before it became obsolete. I guess this is a Throwback Thursday post without actually being one…but I digress.

Back to peplums and their perfection. Another wonderful and important peplum trait is that they’re very versatile. I’ve worn this particular top with jeans, skirts and shorts.

It’s a wardrobe staple that can be dressed up or down.

Today’s look was inspired by the Chloe + Isabel necklace I’m wearing in the pictures. Get it here !

This necklace is unique and so beautiful.  It reminds me of Art Deco with an Egyptian twist. I like to buy items that are essentially conversation starters.

This necklace definitely fit that description! I had lots of people ask me about it and want to have a closer look.

A friend of mine posted a saying on her Facebook account recently…it’s from a book called Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell….

This is how I feel about my outfits and myself in general. My attire is a direct expression of me. How I feel, what I represent, who I am …at least for that moment…is pushed out of my head and onto my body.

This necklace was one of those ways I could funnel myself into one wearable piece.

Hope everyone’s having a great Thursday…hang in there…Friday is right around the corner!

Xoxo…Cortneybre…

On the dot!

Dress: Ann Taylor LOFT Shoes: MIA Bag: Kate Spade NY Earrings: Bealles Sunnies: Union Bay Cardigan: Wet Seal

Dress: Ann Taylor LOFT  Shoes: MIA  Bag/Watch: Kate Spade NY  Earrings: Bealles  Sunnies: Union Bay  Cardigan: Wet Seal

Hello dear readers!

Today’s look is decidedly more sunny and bright! I’ve had this yellow dotted Ann Taylor LOFT dress for several months but hadn’t worn it yet because of…uh…some strange reason.

I actually bought the dress to wear on a Disney cruise my family and I went on last October. I thought it was just perfect and that Minnie Mouse would approve!

The dress is made out of a beautiful, linen-like fabric which is a bit sheer even with its fabric underlay (dig out that slip!). I find it’s very comfortable but runs really large. Tip: I find that all of LOFT’s clothes run really big and that my size 6 is actually a 4 or even a 2 there depending on the item. For the best fit, I’d recommend trying on their items before purchasing if possible!

In order to make the dress work friendly, I paired it with a sparkly, bejeweled cardigan from Wet Seal. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever even been in Wet Seal before. It’s not really my style and seems a tad too “young” for me. That being said, this cardigan was a nice surprise and was a gift from my friend, Sara’s, closet. Thank you Sara! Your gifted clothes just keep giving and giving!

I added my nude MIA heels and a pair of sparkly earrings to finish off the look.

If you’d like to take a look or purchase the dress, I’d highly recommend it…just keep in mind the sizes run large. Click here to access the dress on LOFT’s site – I think it’s sold out now but it could come back in stock online possibly or you might find it in store.

I plan on experimenting with this dress more in the future. I think I’ll try to pair it with a black and white striped jacket or perhaps a floral jacket or blouse. Who knows what you’ll find in my future posts!

Hope you’re enjoying your Tuesday! Xoxo…Cortneybre..
