Fall Style…From The Limited

Yesterday was the first day of Fall and I couldn’t be happier!

I must admit that I prefer tights to bare legs and long sleeves to tank tops.  Blame it on my constant state of cold..even in the warmest settings or just that I love how slimming tights can be under a fitted dress.

Today’s look was long awaited…I recently ordered several Fall-like pieces from The Limited and was extremely happy when I finally received the order and everything fit properly.  One of my fave pieces is the dress I’m wearing in today’s post.  Buy it here and its 30% off!

Tip – if you’re looking for another Fall staple, check out this faux leather fit and flare dress.  I almost bought it…and now regret that I didn’t.  That means I might be making another purchase soon!

I digress…today’s look is comprised of this cute v-neck skater dress from the Limited, my fave Nine West leather boots (similar here), and a beautiful pashmina scarf I received last year as a present (similar here and on sale!).

Hope you enjoy the post!  Start pulling out those scarves and tights..it’s officially Fall!

Drag Showpalace Chic…

Me and one of the lovely ladies of Lips!

Me and one of the lovely ladies of Lips!

Ohh…I had such a GREAT weekend!  Saturday night I took a group of friends out to a local drag show.  It’s actually a drag showpalace….filled with opulence, glitter, LOTS of mirrors and all of the camp décor you’d expect from a night club called Lips.  In one word…fabulous!

Maybe it was all of the glitter…the 6+ feet tall women sauntering about in serious stage makeup and hair…the multiple suspended disco balls reflecting the glitz and glam..I don’t know….but I seriously LOVED it!

Stage Decor!

Stage Decor!

During dinner we were serenaded by lip-synching ladies who traveled around the floor taking pictures with guests and giving the audience quite the show.

By my second drink…aptly named Kick the Bit*h to the Curb, I was out of my seat and turning in circles Abba “Dancing Queen” style to Adele’s “We Could Have Had It All”.

Mr. Charlie Brown was our host and she brought the house down with her rendition of Oleta Adams’ “Get Here”.  It was campy, kitschy and risqué…and the audience loved it.

One of the takeaways from the night was how confident and comfortable these men were as women.  They were more confident in platform heels and corsets than many of the women I know are in heels and skirts.

They showed their figures and weren’t afraid to flaunt.  It made me stand a little straighter and appreciate my “assets” a little more.  I’ve always enjoyed being a girl and now a woman.  I don’t think I revel in it enough though.  We women are special creatures.  How ironic that going to a drag show made me appreciate my femininity.

Me being silly with one of the ladies!

Me being silly with one of the ladies!  I had a few too many drinks so hence..the silly face!

So…now to what I wore.  Sadly, most of the audience dressed down for the show.  I intended to take this opportunity to dress up because if you can’t dress flamboyantly for a drag show..well when can you!?

I took the pics below the day after the show so that the lighting was better.  I also toned down the look a bit (less bling) and hair up.  This altered the look slightly but made it more work appropriate.  I love the versatility of this dress!

The dress I’m wearing is by Kate Spade Saturday.  It’s subtle but flashy…a strong and structured neoprene.  I adore the cut of this dress.  It’s structured in all the right places and fits like a glove.  I recently bought it for a very discounted price at Marshall’s so if you’re interested…check out your local store!

I actually was accidentally Kate Spade branded in head to toe..the shoes and the clutch are also Kate Spade NY.   I thought “Great Expectations” was an appropriate message for the night and ours were certainly fulfilled!

Add a statement necklace and a polka-dotted bangle and I was set for the night!

This dress is a lesson that you don’t have to dress loudly to dress well and be noticed.  One of the ladies at the show even told me to “werk it, girl!”.  That made my night!

If you’re looking for a great night out and are in the Atlanta, Georgia area, I highly recommend Lips!!  I plan on heading back there for my birthday in a few months!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend too!  xoxo….

Shirts I would buy if it were payday….

Happy Friday!  As the title of this post implies, I’m broke as a joke and therefore window shopping.  Or would that be “screen/monitor shopping”…regardless…I’m a’looking but I ain’t buying.

I am, however, filling my ASOS online shopping cart with items I would buy if I could possibly do so and still make my car payment this month.

Wanna see what I would get if I could get it!?

Okay…here goes…

This, my friends, is THE Fashion Blogger Sweat Shirt.  It is perfect in proportion and frankly..looks pretty comfy.  I totally think I could rock this with a brightly colored skirt….totally.

Obviously this shirt is a MUST.  In fact, I’d really expect ASOS to send this to me for free…it’s the least they could do considering my ASOS loyalty.

Next…the Pom Pom Shirt.  It’s a shirt.  It has pom poms.  Buy. it. now.  I guarantee everyone will compliment it but no one will replicate it.

The Mohair Plaid Sweater …I love the colors and plaid is SO in right now.  Beautiful, right?  If you were to buy the shirt and the skirt…it would be perfectly understandable.

Want work wear that is actually interesting?  Try this Lace Sleeved Shirt.  Very feminine but totally functional.  The look of layers without the bulk.  Beautiful.

This shirt is aptly named: Criminal Damage Sweatshirt.  I want it.  Really want it.  All I can think is Versace.  Versace for me.  If its criminal to want this shirt, I don’t wanna be right.

And finally the Piece de Resistance..the Burn Out Florals Blouse.

Why do I love this so much you may ask?  Ever see the movie, Curse of the Golden Flower?  (If not..get to Google-ing and check the images…the yellow embroidered chrysanthemum flowers are reason enough to see the movie).

This shirt is the pink embodiment of that movie.  Its wearable art and it is beautiful.  I’d love to wear this over a fitted white button up and greet everyone with a nin hao!

As I’ve been turning my wardrobe and shifting from summer to fall, I’ve discovered the beauty of “shopping” in my closet. During the turning, which sounds downright vampiric, I noticed several articles of clothing with tags dangling from their pretty collars and sleeves.

As I inspected these items I realized most of the pieces were bought on clearance or at heavily discounted rates and were for more formal occasions.

A cute black silk dress with a shiny geometric pattern…for that occasion when I needed just the right LBD…

A beautiful blue dotted dress with a swoop neck collar…for that after work party that called for casual elegance…

A fabulous blue gingham skirt that just needed a little special attention….

And so I decided to shop in my closet! Each of these items was bought because I truly loved some aspect of the design, texture or color and I found that I still loved these things…I just had nowhere to wear them!

Therefore, I made a resolution to repurpose each of these items, finding new ways to dress them down for everyday work wear. Here are some tips I learned from my endeavors:

For Dresses/Skirts
Add a sweater or cardigan
– Its Fall in the South and so sweaters and cardigans are great at dressing down an otherwise too formal skirt or dress.
– Remember – you can always pull a sweater or cardigan over a dress to essentially convert it to skirt. If the dress still looks too formal underneath a cardigan, try layering a camisole under the cardigan but over the dress to conceal the top half of the pattern or button the cardigan fully.

Wear tights instead of sheer hose
– Sheer hose will make your look too formal.
– Tights will instantly convert an otherwise formal skirt or dress to a less formal look.

• Wear boots
– Stick with low heeled boots or wedges – higher heeled styles will confuse the look as a higher heel is typically worn during a more formal occasion.
– Be leery of boots with lots of hardware – it depends on the hardware but the boot needs to make sense with the overall look you’re trying to achieve.

• Tone down the bling
– Jewelry is a must but keep the jewelry simple or to one or two pieces. Opt for simple pieces that are bigger vs ornate smaller pieces.

For Shirts/Blouses
• Wear a simple but chic pant
– Either nice slacks or jeans – skip the “hiney” embellishments!
– No silk or shiny materials – the focus should be on the blouse – by adding a shiny or silk pant you’re shifting from casual to formal

Be careful with skirts
– Keep skirts simple and chic – go for solid colors or simple prints
– Keep the length of the skirt in mind; long skirts tend to look more formal unless the material is very casual

• Skip the necklace (possibly)
– If the blouse is very formal – either in material or if it has added embellishments – skip the necklace and keep the earrings casual
– Large or ornate necklaces can detract from the beauty of the blouse

• Add a jacket
– A casual jacket, even a jean jacket can take a formal shirt and turn it into an eye catching but day wear approved look
– Ensure the fit of the jacket compliments the shirt – The jacket needs to accentuate the blouse, not swallow or hide it.

I hope these tips are helpful! Next time you’re staring aimlessly at your wardrobe, take a look at those items with the tags still dangling and enjoy shopping in your closet!

Working Lace…

In case you haven’t noticed…I wear a lot of what some would call “formal” clothes to work or just out everyday. I find that anything can be paired with denim….so a denim shirt with a fancy skirt or a formal blouse with denim jeans is an easy go to look.

Today’s outfit pairs a light acid washed denim shirt I bought at Belk.  I LOVE the detailing on this shirt!  The denim is soft and the little gemstones do not snag or bother while wearing.  Plus, this shirt is identical to a JCREW Chambray Shirt (which is sold out) not to mention much, much cheaper.

Check it out here at Belk!

Other aspects of this look include a silver lace skirt (Ann Taylor old but LOVE this one by JCREW), a Kate Spade bag (similar here), Chloe+Isobel Statement Necklace (buy it here), heels (BCBG Generation old but love these)!  Other items: sunglasses-Franco Sarto, Watch – Kate Spade, Bracelet – JCREW.

#TBT in Tweed

I never do throw back Thursdays but I thought it would be fun today to post a look from last year around this time.  I started my blog about a year ago and my first anniversary is drawing near.

This post went up about a month after I started blogging and I was so excited to share this lovely tweed jacket that I’d recently purchased.

Tweed just never goes out of style in my opinion and you will probably be seeing this jacket again very soon…but in a new post and styled a new way!

Happy Thursday, everyone!  xx…

These Shoes…

So….I found these shoes…and…

Shoes: BCBG Skirt: Banana Republic Blouse: Ann Taylor LOFT Necklace: Bealles Bag: Kate Spade Saturday Sunnies: Franco Sarto

Shoes: BCBG  Skirt: Banana Republic  Blouse: Ann Taylor LOFT  Necklace: Bealles  Bag: Kate Spade Saturday
Sunnies: Franco Sarto

it is extremely difficult not to wear them…everyday.

I’m…addicted.

And they don’t even look like something I’d wear!  How is it that my fashion sense can completely surprise me so absolutely?!

Maybe it’s because its Fashion Week in NYC.  Yep…I bet that’s it.  It’s Fashion Week.

It’s making me break out of my usual look and embrace new and different styles.  I guess that’s a good thing.

Now to plan an outfit that does not consist of these shoes….hmmmm….
