Casual Friday…Don’t Dress TOO Fancy…

001 collage (1)

Well, its Friday – yay!  I decided to dress down today as last Friday I was told I looked as if I was going to a party.  Not a bad thing to be told…and I’m not complaining.  I chose to take it as a compliment, because how else could they have meant it?  (Yeah..I know..I know…but it’s not gonna stop me!)

Since jeans are not permissible at work, I thought a chambray shirt would be the next best thing.  I also decided on a yellow skirt I’ve had for a year or so.  I really like the pattern and texture of the skirt even if it’s a little short.  In searching for something to pull the outfit together, I remembered a JCREW statement necklace I received as a gift a couple of years ago.  The necklace has the faintest hint of yellow and when paired with yellow gem earrings I thought it solidified the outfit.  Finally, I threw on a favorite pair of wedge boots by Franco Sarto and a matching pair of tights.

Hello Friday!  Have a great weekend!  Cortneybre…

Not-So-Great Days…Everyone Has ‘Em…

Ugh.  You know…some days are just…well..to keep this G rated I’ll say they’re not-so-great.

I’ve been having one of those weeks actually.  Mainly because of the weather and all of the issues that result from it.  I’ve worn two perfectly cute outfits the last couple of days.  Outfits that I would like to share with you.  BUT..due to this stupid, flipping weather I was unable to get decent pictures.

I’ve been sitting here, depressed…because I couldn’t post the pictures I wanted to post and thinking about the demise of my blog.  I know I’m being fatalistic and that a couple of botched posts does not a failure make but it’s hard to keep going when you feel the forces of NATURE are against you!

Regardless, I thought I’d share yesterday’s outfit with you.  It’s not a great picture but I do think it’s a great and simple outfit and I wanted to put it out there to the world.

I know image is everything and perception is very important but everyone (even the most glamorous) have bad days – bad hair days, bad lipstick days, bad “I shouldn’t have worn these shoes” days.  Not that I’m one of the most glamorous but I do try to make everyday sparkle with specialness and bring my unique style to those who are interested.

Here’s to tomorrow being a great day and the end of the not-so-great ones!  XO Cortneybre…

Gum Drop Necklaces and Ice Cream Heeled Dreams….Kate Spade Treats

Oh…Kate Spade, Kate Spade…could I love any other designer as much as I love you?001 collage (1)

If you’ve followed my posts, you’ve probably noticed that I have a teensy lil’ crush on Kate Spade.  Ok…so it’s a borderline obsession.  I really can’t help myself.  I love almost everything that displays a Kate Spade label!  So much so that I must deprive myself of looking at the website because of my weakness to buy too much and spend our “vacation money” as my husband likes to say.

Sadly, today I was feeling needy – due to the atrocious weather we are having I’m sure – and decided to take a quick peek.  What I found…was too wondrous to describe.  Beautiful colors, patterns, textures and even ice cream heels and gum drop necklaces!  It’s like a Willy Wonka movie inspired wardrobe (and in a good way)!  I’ve posted some of my favorite pieces below.  I think I’m most excited by the shoes…they are quirky and unique and could totally transform any outfit.

As much as I love clothes, I’ll probably forego spending our “vacation money” and use this as inspiration for future outfits.  I’ll use what I already own or possibly go “shopping down” at JC Penney or another cheaper retailer to get the same look.  Oh, but I do pine for those ice cream inspired heels….maybe just a tiny splurge on a sweet treat…XOXO

Have You Heard? Capsule Collection – Zooey Deschanel & Tommy Hilfiger

I don’t often follow celebrity style. Frankly, I like my style and I prefer to buy what I like and not follow fashion trends that are, well…too trendy. To be more specific, many celebrities wear what is “IN” now versus what is and will remain “IN”. That can be fun and interesting but isn’t practical and I think it takes away from, what I feel, fashion is – true, personal style that reflects your personality.“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”. Rachel Zoe

That being said, one of the celebrities that I do like to follow is Zooey Deschanel. Even her name is wonderful! (Seriously, I’d change my name if I could and be Cortneybre Deschanel if it weren’t for that pesky government filing and paperwork and such).

In my following of Ms. Deschanel, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that she has collaborated with Tommy Hilfiger to create a Zooey Deschanel-esque capsule collection titled To Tommy, From Zooey. Cute, cute, cute! The collection will have a London circa 1960’s vibe and will consist of several items including 16 mini dresses in a classic color palette: red, white and blue.

Fourteen of the sixteen dresses will launch at Macy’s starting April 14th and all sixteen will be available via Tommy.com on April 21st. For more information, see EOnline’s link below!

I do hope Zooey continues collaborating with designers to bring her unique style to stores. I would especially love to see her partner with Kate Spade NY on a collection! Cortneybre…

Violets are Blue…Gingham & Floral Prints

001 collage (1)

With the Polar Vortex upon us, I decided to dress in layers today. I usually determine my outfits by picking one piece that I definitely want to wear and coordinating around it. This tactic was used in picking out today’s ensemble.

I brought out this blue and violet cardigan which really doesn’t get enough credit for being so pretty. I realized last night how versatile it was when I found at least 5 different outfits that I could build from this one piece!

In order to stay warm and give my poor legs and feet a break from the Arctic wind, I decided on pants instead of a skirt. I also was pleasantly surprised that the cardigan paired so well with a blue and white gingham shirt from Old Navy. Add a grey and blue crystal bib necklace and I was ready for a chilly Monday.

Of course, as I was working in my closet, I neglected to watch the weather and its 50 degrees here today. Egads! Snow is predicted for tomorrow though….and I’ll probably wear a skirt. Take THAT Mother Nature! Xoxo.. Cortneybre..
