Recycling Style…A 1980’s Dress is so now!

I’m big on vintage, thrift and basically cheap (but awesome) clothing. I must admit that I’m fickle and have too many clothes and only one body with which to wear them.

This means I have a choice – buy fewer but more expensive clothes or buy what I like and want when I can find it used and cheaper (thus amassing a wardrobe of clothes spanning multiple closets and rooms – fun right!). I subscribe to the latter.

This was my reasoning with the lovely dress I have on today. I stumbled upon this dress on eBAY and decided to take a chance on it.

Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was so perfectly “now” when it was from the early 1980’s. The midi length, pleated skirt, airy fabric and pretty pink hue are very trendy now.

I’ve received several compliments on the dress today and several people were surprised to hear its vintage (although saying something from the 1980’s is vintage seems SO wrong to me!). 🙂

I will say that I try to stay current with my look, even when wearing vintage clothing as I think you can easily slip into “period” dressing and while that’s not a bad thing…it’s not what I’m aiming for in my every day look.

For today’s dress I paired it with a multi-strand pearl necklace in bright, spring colors and blue and white Fornarina heels. I liked the contrast of the colors against the pink and I thought it modernized the dress even more. What do you think? Is vintage shopping a “yay or nay” for you? xoxo..Cortneybre…
