Hey…I Put Some New Shoes On and Suddenly Everything Is Right…

New Shoes

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody’s smiling,
It’s so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I’m running late,
And I don’t need an excuse,
’cause I’m wearing my brand new shoes….
Artist: Paolo Nutini   Song: New Shoes

I’ve been listening to a lot of Paolo Nutini lately and I thought his song, New Shoes, was a good introduction for today’s post.  The song is upbeat, quirky and happy…just like my new shoes!

I received a shipment from ASOS this weekend.  It contained a couple of wonderful skirts (one of which, I’m featuring today) and this lovely pair of shoes.  I’ve worn the shoes all weekend!  They are so versatile and go with everything.  They are also comfortable, which is rare.

Unfortunately, I am also now “short on money but long on time” so I think I’ll be repurposing some of my favorite items to wear with my new skirts and shoes.  Be sure to check out my posts later this week as I’ll be showcasing these new items!  Have a great Monday!  Cortneybre…

P.S.  Although I love making and posting my photo collages, I am also going to include my individual shots going forward.  As I post to some external sites (ex: Lucky Contributor), it seems the collages do not display well and individual shots are necessary.

Days in Pink Satin

Happy Monday – if there is such a thing.  I’m sitting here, eating “a handful of nuts”, which is my daily allotment as I’m trying a 2 week toxic cleanse thing.   Think lots of lemon/cucumber water and NO food.  It’s so bad; I’m eating the nuts one at a time just to savor each and every one.

But this is a fashion blog, right?!  So enough about food and on to today’s post which is an eBay special.

Never underestimate the power of eBay.  I was in search of a satin skirt or dress and after all attempts at finding one in store failed I decided to try eBay.  I did a simple search for satin dresses and this wonderful, bright fuchsia dress popped up!  I think I paid $40 or so for it and couldn’t believe how beautiful the fabric and color was.

I’ve worn it to a few events and decided to wear it to work today paired with a black polka-dotted cardigan to dress it down.  I also separated the belt from the dress and tied it around the cardigan for a more polished look.

There’s something about wearing satin, perhaps its the rustle of the fabric…it just makes me feel special.  And that is much needed on a Monday!  Cortneybre…

Fashion Inspiration from Anywhere…Even a Headboard

Today’s post is inspired by an image I saw on the blog for Adore MagazineJ’adore Adore and they recently featured the image in my post below.  I thought the fabrics and colors were so beautiful and held onto the image in case I found any fabrics of a similar pattern.

Last night, while at Banana Republic, I found a wonderful skirt, blouse and sweater which I feel beautifully represent this image.  I don’t typically wear a lot of green and was so happy I found this image to inspire this outfit!   http://www.adoremagazine.com/

Everyday Inspiration…Beauty is Beautiful

I look for fashion inspiration everywhere.  I was told by a dear friend that I represent beauty.  Not that I, myself, am beautiful but rather that I am drawn to beauty and it is drawn to me.  That was one of the nicest compliments I’ve gotten and I like to think that it is true.  I am excited by beautiful things – fabrics, colors, sparkle, texture – regardless of its form.  I am physically moved by beauty and feel my soul stir when I find something that strikes me.

As I’ve searched for fashion inspiration in planning the outfits that I post on this blog, I’ve learned that inspiration comes from everywhere. Lately, I’ve started collecting images I find beautiful and working to build outfits based on those images.  I’ll be showcasing some of those this week along with the image or item that inspired the outfit.

Today’s picture post was inspired by a beautiful mirror that a sweet friend gifted to me at Christmas.  It is just gorgeous with its sparkly peacock pattern.  I took the mirror home to place it in my closet – which for me is my secret play & plan place.  I display as much of my wardrobe and jewelry as possible so that I may visually plan the next day’s garb.  I placed the mirror on my shelf and realized that it matched the pants hanging just below it!  And so, the post below was inspired by my beautiful gift.  {I must also admit that I did – for a short second – contemplate somehow hanging the mirror from a chain and wearing it as a necklace or accessory with the pants.  Obviously…that didn’t work out which is a good thing because I don’t think I could have pulled that off but it was contemplated!}

And…although it isn’t an excuse, it is at the moment, VERY COLD where I live and that has affected my ability to photograph as I normally do.  I thought I was leaving the cold when I returned from New York but that doesn’t appear to be the case and it is in fact colder where I live versus NYC.   So, dear readers, please take that into account when viewing my posts.  Until it warms up here – which should be this weekend or so, my photos will be a bit rushed, the lighting might not be perfect and I’ll appear a bit windblown!    Cheers!  Cortneybre…
