When Life Gives You Lemons…a Lemon Print Shirt on Cortneybre…

melemons

There is an old saying…when life gives you lemons…make lemonade.  I’ve recently been handed a lemon…and while I don’t want to go into too much detail until I know more, I will admit it’s gotten me down a bit.

In an effort to comfort myself, I decided to go shopping – my go-to retail therapy approach that usually perks me back up.  While shopping at Belk – one of my fave stores – and perusing their isles I saw this cute and whimsical lemon print shirt by Jones and Company.

It was a sign from the universe…

So into my buggy it went and onto my body the next day!  I thought this bright green LouenHide bag was the perfect match!

I topped the lemon print off with a lace overlay blouse from LOFT and added a cute and flirty skirt from JCREW.

A beautiful CHOiES skirt….on Cortneybre…

I’ve been quite the Chic Wish fan lately but decided to branch out a little and try some new shopping sites.  One of these sites is CHOiES, which is very similar to Chic Wish and just as fab.  My first purchase from CHOiES was a somewhat simple and safe one.  I decided on this beautiful black midi skirt you see below.

Shirt: Crown & Ivy Skirt: Choices Heels: Kate Spade Bag: Kate Spade Sunnies: Franco Sarto
Shirt: Crown & Ivy
Skirt: Choies
Heels: Kate Spade
Bag: Kate Spade
Sunnies: Franco Sarto

I wasn’t sure if the quality and fit would compare to Chic Wish so I played it safe with this purchase.  Let me just say I was happily surprised and quite pleased with the purchase!

The dress fit perfectly, the fabric was beautiful and the cut was perfect!  And…I do think CHOiES is a little cheaper than Chic Wish also!  Who doesn’t LOVE that!?

I’m also trying a few new sites and will let you know how I fare with those also!  I’ve ordered a couple of items from Sheinside so stay tuned for future posts and reviews!  The pieces I’ve ordered are very unique and I can’t wait to style them!

For now, Chic Wish and CHOiES have served me well and I’ve many beautiful pieces to wear!  I also have a cool new Chic Wish dress to feature too…I hope to have it posted soon!

Hope you’re having a great week!

Kate Spade Saturday on SALE…check out my fave piece on Cortneybre…

OMG…what can I say…these past few weeks have been a whirlwind!  I’ve missed you guys, my wonderful readers!

Now..on to fashion!

KS Sat

First Kate Spade Saturday is running a tremendous sale!  As in 50% off their sale items sale!

I’ve heard rumors that Kate Spade’s Saturday brand is folding, along with Jack Spade.  How very sad!

I will admit that I prefer Kate Spade NY to its younger sister, Saturday, however I do think Saturday has a place in the fashion market.  I’ll be sad to see it go.

That being said, I took advantage of that sale I just mentioned and purchased this tres cute pink skirt!

Jacket: Banana Republic Shirt: Red Camel Skirt: Kate Spade Saturday Heels: Kate Spade NY Bag: Kate Spade NY Sunnies: Franco Sarto Bracelets/Watch: Kate Spade NY
Jacket: Banana Republic     Shirt: Crown and Ivy
Skirt: Kate Spade Saturday      Heels: Kate Spade NY
Bag: Kate Spade NY       Sunnies: Franco Sarto
Bracelets/Watch: Kate Spade NY

Cute right!?  Love the skirt, great fit and color…short and sassy!

This is a winter to summer piece also.  The skirt easily pairs with tights or without!

I LOVE wearing a simple ribbon as a necklace.  It serves as the perfect accent without being too flashy!

Check out Kate Spade Saturday’s sale!  I bet you find something you love!

Culottes…on Cortneybre…

Well…the crisis continues.  Only now, it has a name.  Culottes.  As in wide legged – above the ankle – possibly high waisted trousers.  I make that distinction because I think the French use the term “culottes” to refer to panties and this isn’t a lingerie post.

Let me also state there is a bit of culotte snobbery on the internet and many people argue about the categorizing of culottes, palazzo pants and gauchos.  Personally, I think it’s much ado about nothing.  I choose to call these culottes.  Maybe I just want to sound fancy and French.  Whatever the reason, I think if you reference these types of pants by any of those names, people will get the concept.   Now that we’ve cleared that up, back to my obsession.

As stated in my prior post, I’m having a little bit of a fashion shift – from a classic, girly palette to one that is edgier, bolder and more androgynous.  Just in case this is just a phase, I’m trying to find a happy medium between the two styles.    While searching through my closet and wading thru midi-skirt, after midi-skirt I stumbled upon this pair of culottes.  My world opened up!  I love the cut of culottes.  They’re good girl edgy. The quirky sibling of slacks…pants masquerading as a skirt!

You must ensure your proportions are correct – typically light on top and heavier on bottom (think a tank top and culottes forming a triangle type silhouette) or boxier on top and wide on bottom (think two squares on top of each other).

You must ensure the pants hit you at the right point on your leg or you’ll lose your height and look disproportionate.  Think – just wearing pants that are too short for you and cut poorly.

I prefer heels with my culottes.  I actually prefer heels with everything but they especially work well with shorter lengths.  Your legs look longer, your ankles smaller and the look is more polished and refined.

I’m now looking for the perfect pair of taffeta (one of my favorite fabrics) culottes in a bright and bold color.

Similar to these below:

Fabulous Victoria Beckham was recently spotted in a fetching pair of culottes a couple of days ago.  Notice the proportion of the blouse/scarf to the pants and the heels?  Spot on!

Have an excellent week, my friends!
