Yes..it’s bright and busy – and just so lovely!  I’ve worn both pieces – blazer and pants – separately but this was the first time I’d paired them together.

The result was everything I’d hoped!

Eye-catching and interesting…a real conversation starter!

Isn’t the pattern lovely!?!

One of the reasons I love Kate Spade SO much is the brand’s whimsical and outside-of-the-box approach to fashion.

The clothing is visually stunning…living, walking art!

Hope you are having a great week!  For more Cortneybre, check me out on Instagram – @Cortneybreblog!

Kate Spade Saturday on SALE…check out my fave piece on Cortneybre…

OMG…what can I say…these past few weeks have been a whirlwind!  I’ve missed you guys, my wonderful readers!

Now..on to fashion!

KS Sat

First Kate Spade Saturday is running a tremendous sale!  As in 50% off their sale items sale!

I’ve heard rumors that Kate Spade’s Saturday brand is folding, along with Jack Spade.  How very sad!

I will admit that I prefer Kate Spade NY to its younger sister, Saturday, however I do think Saturday has a place in the fashion market.  I’ll be sad to see it go.

That being said, I took advantage of that sale I just mentioned and purchased this tres cute pink skirt!

Jacket: Banana Republic Shirt: Red Camel Skirt: Kate Spade Saturday Heels: Kate Spade NY Bag: Kate Spade NY Sunnies: Franco Sarto Bracelets/Watch: Kate Spade NY
Jacket: Banana Republic     Shirt: Crown and Ivy
Skirt: Kate Spade Saturday      Heels: Kate Spade NY
Bag: Kate Spade NY       Sunnies: Franco Sarto
Bracelets/Watch: Kate Spade NY

Cute right!?  Love the skirt, great fit and color…short and sassy!

This is a winter to summer piece also.  The skirt easily pairs with tights or without!

I LOVE wearing a simple ribbon as a necklace.  It serves as the perfect accent without being too flashy!

Check out Kate Spade Saturday’s sale!  I bet you find something you love!

Happy 2015! Dressing down my NYE dress on Cortneybre.com!

Happy 2015, Friends and Readers!  I know I faded away a bit at the end of 2014…but between birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and shopping…I was swamped!

Happy New Year

Things are slowing down just a bit now though and I’m happy to get back to my blogging world and friends!

I will tell you that in the midst of all the hectic Holiday happiness (and madness), I did ring in the New Year with quite a bang!

I had a wonderful and fabulous time at a NYE Gala held at Chateau Elan in Atlanta.  The party was done in a Roaring Twenties Theme and was spectacular!

Of course…that meant I had to wear something in theme and so I picked this glam and glitzy Kate Spade Saturday dress! (Buy it here and its on SALE!)  Alas…the NYE pics didn’t turn out…my usual photographer wasn’t available and after fighting with dim lighting I decided to just enjoy the evening.  However, after the Holidays were over and I was forced to return to the real world, I did style down the dress and make it work/everyday friendly!

Have a party dress that you’d love to wear casually? Here are a few tips I use when styling down a party dress!

Tip #1:   Transition the dress to a skirt!  Add dimension by layering a blouse underneath and a cardigan or sweater on top.

Dress worn as skirt: Kate Spade Saturday Cardigan: Banana Republic Necklace and Bag:Kate Spade NY Shoes: JCREW Sunnies: Franco Sarto White Blouse: BCBG
Dress worn as skirt: Kate Spade Saturday  Cardigan: Banana Republic
Necklace and Bag:Kate Spade NY  Shoes: JCREW
Sunnies: Franco Sarto  White Blouse: BCBG

Tip #2:  Do the opposite!  Wear a simple but complimentary skirt over the dress and voila!  The dress becomes a fun top instead.  If needed, add a blazer or jacket to tone down the look a little more.  I’ll showcase that look in a future post!

Tip #3:  Dress down with tights!  Avoid sheer hose…they instantly make an outfit more dressy and dated.  Tights are more casual.

Tip #4: Wear simple (but cute…always cute) shoes.  Now… I know that I didn’t quite stick to that rule in these pictures…these are actually my party shoes.  But…some days you must wear party shoes.  And that’s ok too.  But if you’re feeling a little too “over done”, dress down on the shoes and that should take the outfit from night..to day!

A Crowd Pleaser…in Kate Spade Saturday

Fall has descended upon my little town like a wet, soggy blanket of gloom.  It’s hard to be upbeat with day after day of cloudy, rainy skies and dreary winds.  Plus, it makes taking a good outfit post almost impossible.

It was on one of these gloomy days last week that I shot this look.  I’m in LOVE with the dress btw…although it was a love/hate relationship at first.  It’s Kate Spade Saturday and I found it heavily discounted at Marshall’s.  (I’ve basically bought all of their KS Saturday wear that I could squeeze into).

So.  This dress…oh this dress!  I will be honest that I put it on…took it off…put it on again….found my Spanx…took it off.  Thought about it for a couple of hours.  Put on my tights …put it back on….and finally decided, “what the hell”, I’m wearing it tomorrow.

Why the hesitation, you may ask?  Well…it’s short…and shorter than I’d typically wear to work which, for me, is where I am most of the time.  So…if it won’t “work” for work, then it won’t work at all.  Aside from the fact that it’s short…it’s also very fitted and getting past the shortness of the skirt was further complicated by the fitted look of the dress.

Obviously…after all of my indecisiveness, I chose to wear the dress anyway. The result:  happily, the dress was a success and I’m happy I kept it!  (I won’t be indulging in any sweets anytime soon if I wish to continue wearing it but that’s a battle best fought later).

Back to my gloomy, no good, very bad day.  (This all ties together I promise).

Picture me…standing on a busy corner, my photographer snapping away and me trying to look posh, long and lean while internally praying it doesn’t rain and/or we don’t get accosted by homeless people.  As I’m switching up my pose, I hear whoops and hollers in the distance and as the noise gets closer…guess who it is??

That’s right.  A bus load (and I mean…every seat is filled) of convicts.  (I’m sure that was your first guess…).

I’d like to think they weren’t violent criminals…perhaps just day traders caught for embezzling or something but I’m sure a mixture of the general prison population was contained in this little capsule of delight.

So..they cat called and yelled although I didn’t hear anything profane or inappropriate.  After one of them started to yell “werk it, girl” (remember…that’s the same thing the drag queen told me the other night..coincidence..perhaps)..I just lost it.

Hence the picture below.

When they finally pulled away from the red light, I waved and they all cheered and thankfully drove on their merry way…back to jail, I’m sure.

So…I guess this dress was a hit?  With the incarcerated crowd at least!
