Wedding (Guest! or Bride!) Shopping Ideas

Hello everyone!

I’m working thru some important changes – starting back to school…while working part-time… and blogging (although I’ve been remiss lately and I’m trying to get back on track)!

But…the world waits for no one and I have a wedding coming up in a few months so I though I’d showcase some of the looks I’m considering! I actually am looking into doing some short videos & (after I work out the sound issue I’m having) I’ll be posting some videos!

The first look I’m showcasing comes from one of my fave brands, ASOS.  Actually, I did a little ASOS haul and so I think all of my fave looks  – that might possibly make the cut –  are ASOS!

If you’ve never shopped ASOS, check out the site but be forewarned..there is a lot of product there and it can be very overwhelming!  My video will showcase some of the tips I use to help me navigate the site.

First – what is the event that I’m attending?  I’m actually taking an advanced public speaking class and we talked a lot today about “knowing your audience”.  It’s interesting because I was thinking how much this applies to styling, as well as giving a good speech!  So, know your audience attending the event!

It’s soon to be Spring wedding season…and no matter if you’re the bride, bridesmaid, or a guest…you should start shopping now for the perfect look!  I’ve been amazed how quickly pieces that I like but I wait to buy because I’m not sure if I loovvvee them go…away!!  I’ve also had two items that I bought – had shipped quickly – received, styled and quickly posted get bought out before I posted them!

So…word to the wise…buy the dress, the shirt or shoes!  And if they don’t work out, return them but don’t let them get away!

Let’s get to this dress though!  Here’s the specs!

  • It’s so comfy & totally forgiving (in all the right ways).  I love the way it fits – loose but with a nice drape.  It’s well proportioned and true to size!
  • The COLOR: it’s a beautiful fuchsia & has the most beautiful sheen.  And it has full multi-colored embroidered flowers which are beautifully done and go up the front and back of the dress extending to one of the sleeves.
  • Speaking of SLEEVES: they’re a bat wing style sleeve.  Now that sounds like it isn’t pleasant but they’re actually quite beautiful!

Styling:  I went light on all of the other accessories as the dress is a show stopper on its own!  I’m into brooches right now and so I added a Chanel inspired brooch and I think it really added that little bit of sparkle that completed the look!  I was also very excited to try out my new fave mules (actually, I have two new pair but these are slightly my fave, fave).

As always, please shop my look by going to http://www.liketoknow.it/Cortneybre and you can shop directly from there!  Or it will direct you to ASOS and you can shop their entire site!  00000IMG_00000_BURST20200118151356074_COVER

NewYorkco.1

I’m in the process of actually planning my corporate party.  That’s my excuse for needing so many holiday looks!  Since December 1st, I’ve been asked at least three times if I was heading to a party …so I guess my party vibe is working!

One of my favorite fabrics is plaid. Not just during the Holidays but all year round.

Maybe its a Southern thing…Madras Plaid is a staple of the summer Southern wardrobe.

In general, plaid can actually be used as a neutral or as a statement pattern too so it’s very versatile.  Black and white Buffalo Plaid is also HUGE right now and rightfully so..its a clean look.

NewYorkco.3

My favorite pattern for the Holidays is a tartan plaid…I find it VERY hard to pass up!  It reminds me of Christmas trees and money….meaning that it’s a Holiday look that I consider refined and chic…and therefore expensive!

THIS TOP…oh my god…I seriously went crazy for it.   And it does look expensive although it’s not.  The fabric is beautiful and it’s well made and fits great!

NewYorkco.5

It’s a faux bustier, which reminds me of two bustier tops I had back in the late 90’s (yeah, I know….AGE..ugh).  I had a black one and a red one and I wore them basically every day during that Holiday season in 1996…my teenage heart feeling as if it would burst with romantic Christmas charm.

So, I was instantly drawn to this top.  Plus, it’s plaid so…perfection.  And it has a beautiful wrap-around bow that you can tie two ways.  I close to tie the bow in front for this look so I could add a brooch but you can also tie it in back.

NewYorkco.4

It’s so chic and there are pants that match the top for a total – head to toe- look.  I have SO much plaid that I just bought the top but I’m very tempted to go back and snag the pants as well!  They’re buy one get one half off now so…a great deal!  And don’t forget, it’s not too late to shop online for upcoming Holiday parties!  I’m finding that shipping is about 4 days from store to door!

Cyber Monday…it’s finally upon us…

This is me…desperately trying to find a cedar tree to hang my cool ornament on – it was a planned theme…and “in my mind”, it was going to look fabulous.

12.2.19.5.jpg

In actuality, it looked like this…

….see my face.  See how happy I look.  Yeah..it was flipping C.O.L.D and this theme…wasn’t working out.  (notice the skirt still looks good though….)..oh and I forgot my gold belt…so just imagine how awesome this would have looked with a gold belt!

12.2.19.1.jpg

So, I switched venues and this turned out much better!

The lighting was much different so the colors look a little off…the skirt is actually better represented in the shot above…

12.2.19.2

And check out this cute oxford button up!  I had it embroidered with my “brand” although I should have ordered a smaller size and I might do that since it’s under $15!!  Why not grab another?!

12.2.19.8

You know…Cyber Monday couldn’t come at a worst time…Monday, really?!  The first Monday of December…yikes!  And I hear many retailers are extending it to next Friday so it’s now Cyber “Week”.  You know the good stuff is gonna be gone by then though so we’re back to hitting the Monday sales!

12.2.19.3

Mondays are my busiest days.  Like most people, it’s “Mun-day” and filled with emails, meetings and looming deadlines.

But..I also have access to the internet and a privacy screen on my computer…or I could just shut my office door?…hmmmm….not that I’m condoning shopping while working…of course not…but I do believe about $9 billion dollars will be spent today & I’m sure everyone didn’t take the day off so…

…I’m not going to feel too bad if I snag a few deals!

12.2.19.10

Speaking of deals…don’t forget to use the Rakuten Ebates site…you get extra cash back on most of your online purchases.  Some sites are up to 20% cash back!  I’ve gotten over $1000 dollars in cash back since I became a member a few years ago so I can attest to its deals!

Ok..enough reading about me!  Get out there and SHOP!!  I’m heading to the JCrew site right now….

Holiday Humbug – But I Still Got my Party Looks…

Ahh…December 1st is upon us…ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  (This was meant to be read as a scream and not as an “oh yay”).  Cortneybre.SheinTop..14.jpg

The Holidays are hectic for most people…I have a lot of birthdays to celebrate and my anniversary (VEGAS..WHOOO-HOOO) to add to my already stressful Christmas stocking of to-do’s and to-by fors.

And, although I am EXTREMELY excited & thankful beyond measure about being a style influencer for rewardStyle, oh my God…it couldn’t have come at a more stressful time!

Cortneybre.SheinTop.11-rotated.jpg

There’s quite a bit to learn – lots of updating to be done and now…some sort of added importance to my posts?  I think it’s pretty natural for me to feel that way and I’m trying to overcome it and hell – I am overcoming it – look at this post!

Cortneybre.SheinTop.animation.gif

However, I am sitting on the fence about how much writing effort I should actually put into the blog – vs – just sharing my images and where to shop them.  I’ve been reading other blogs that I really enjoy and I think that I relate to them because I am also a blogger.

Cortneybre.SheinTop.7

But for the everyday gal, who most likely has one or all of the following: kids, pets, JOB(s), house (to keep clean & decorate), husband, wife or significant other, parents (possibly aging)..it seems a bit petty to write about…well…blogging woes and clothes, in the grand scheme of things.

The good news is – although the timing of it is driving me crazy – my readers can easily shop my looks by clicking one link and its makes things MUCH easier!!

No getting the kids in the car and containing them while you shop, or fighting traffic – just to get TO the store.  Or finding out its sold out or they don’t have your size!  I really do hope this makes life easier for those who want to shop my look…it has for me as I follow other influencers and LOVE what they wear but know that I don’t have that store nearby.

https://www.liketoknow.it/Cortneybre

Oh!  And I’m working on adding the rewardStyle LIKEtoKNOW.it button to my blog..but hey…didn’t I just tell you I am busy!?!

Cortneybre.SheinTop.19

Well..now at least my dear readers can shop easier and if they should choose to continue with my, often, stream-of-consciousness style writing, they’ll learn a little bit more about me and my world.

Speaking of which – I’ve also been thinking about my targeted audience and how do I define that..who would be in that audience?  I literally just realized, this morning…my targeted audience is well….ME.  Possibly a little less extravagant, as most people wouldn’t walk around with a Victoria’s Secret-esqe V-neck bodysuit in downtown Bakersfield, CA when its 35 degrees outside.

Cortneybre.SheinTop.3-rotated.jpg

Regardless, I’m targeting myself…I work, have a child, husband, home, parents, family, pets and everything else.  So, my world is a whirlwind and shopping and outfit prepping for me is often hectic and done at midnight or 5:00am on a Saturday morning.

Cortneybre.SheinTop.5-rotated.jpg

So…dear audience…I feel ya!  And I hope that you find some inspiration from my outfits and now you can easily shop the looks too!

Oh and I laugh every time I look at the pic of me smiling…I was freaking freezing…I shiver every time I look at these images!
