Lilly Pulitzer Dress + Kate Spade Straw Bag = Leaving for my cruise!!

Bon voyage, my friends!

Well you know it’s cruise and beach time when I bring out the Lilly Pulitzer!  This will be my last post before the cruise and it’s a casual one. Sooo casual in fact that I’ve actually been stopped several times at work today and specifically asked why I’m so casual!

Sheesh!..as if I’m wearing jeans or something! Guess it’s the flip flop sandals…this is what happens when you live in heels. 🙂

I’ll keep this post short and sweet as I’m working on last minute, pre-departure packing and such.

The dress is a Lilly Pulitzer (similar here), sandals by Dexter (similar here) and bag by Kate Spade (similar here and here )!

Can’t wait to post cruise and vacation pictures upon my return! Until then…xx…Cortneybre…

I mentioned yesterday that my wonderful friend, Sara, donated some of her closet clutter to me. As soon as I opened her newly gifted bag of possibilities, I was intrigued by a small ball of what appeared to be lace mesh.

The tags were still attached and as I unwound the lace I realized it was a wonderfully delicate lace, mesh blouse. I recognized the brand also – Rodarte for Target – which appeared a few years ago and I think was quite successful.

As I said the tags were still attached and when I inquired as to why she didn’t wear it, she stated she just couldn’t get it to work with the blouses she added underneath it.

As I’m always up for a challenge, I decided to make this blouse a priority!

I tried 5 or 6 blouses with it until I found the button up Banana Republic shirt you see in my pictures. I just loved the effect…a trendy Victorian high collar complete with bows at the neck and wrists but totally modern due to the sheer fabric!

I paired the blouses with a skirt from Sara’s donation gift bag also – a beautiful Tara Jarmon skater skirt she bought while in Paris! Also with tags still attached!

Once I added my red ASOS heels, the look was complete! I must say, I’ve enjoyed wearing this outfit today.

It has such a structured yet chic look and I love the way I feel in it.

Thank you, Sara Knabe…you are truly one of my favorite people and I really love the items you gave to me! Xx…Cortneybre…

A Royal Blue Hue…

AHHHHHH!!! It’s been a crazy, hectic and all around nutzo day! I did snap a couple of pics today though as I thought I’d share my Kate Middleton inspired, royal blue dress.

A friend of mine (shout out to you Sara!) cleaned out her well stocked closet and gave me several wonderful items. Among many other cute pieces, I was excited to find this pretty blue dress. When I put it on I immediately thought of the Duchess of Cambridge due to its royal blue hue and simplistic yet chic cut.

The original belt was missing so I added a belt of my own and decided on a contrasting color to give it a little Cortneybre twist! I also tried to keep the jewelry simple.  Kate isn’t running around with fabulous tiaras and statement necklaces on everyday (although I would if I were her!) so I tried to keep the look simple and understated.  The color was so eyecatching that no big jewelry was needed.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!  xx…Cortneybre…

Feeling dandy in oxfords….

I switched it up a bit today. No skirt, no heels….pants and oxfords instead. You might think I toned it down with today’s wardrobe choices. Oh no..honey…no way!

Today’s outfit is nothing like me…and everything like me. It’s a feminine version of my most masculine self. It’s me…in drag!

I was surprised to hear lots of feedback about today’s look – most people loved the shoes but seemed to miss my skirts and heels. Funny how your clothing really does define you and people base their opinion of you on your outward appearance. It’s an obvious concept but sometimes I forget just how true that is.

I feel perfectly dandy in my outfit today. I love the androgyny of the look – although who am I kidding…I’m wearing pink gingham, pearls and silver shoes so there’s still plenty of Cortneybre in this outfit! Oh and notice that top button too…its covered with an earring…I didn’t have a brooch that worked and so I made do with an earring substitute!  Just a little DIY for the day!

A little information on my Sam Edelman oxfords…they seemed to garner the most attention today and I must say they are fabulous! I don’t typically wear oxfords or lace ups but these were very comfortable and easy to wear. The color is a bright and shiny metallic silver and they have the cutest little metal SE initials on the heels. I’ve loved Sam Edelman’s shoes since the 1990’s when I was a middle schooler proudly sporting my Sam and Libby bow accented flats around town. Have a great weekend everyone! Xoxo…Cortneybre….

Wearing What I’ve Never Worn Before….Odille @ Anthropologie

I’ve been in major fashion disaster mode this week.

I really, really have a closet FULL (slap full as we say in the South) of clothes and nothing to wear. I’ve either worn it before (and too recently), don’t feel it “represents” my mood at the moment or don’t think it fits the way it should (I gotta work out more-ugh!).

But..I decided to force myself to wear something that I’ve bought and never worn – for one of those reasons I just mentioned. I settled on a beautiful Odille skirt that I bought from Anthropologie a couple of years ago.

I’ll confess, shhhh….I’ve never worn this skirt! How is that possible you may ask?

Actually…I’m not quite sure.

I really love the color and the pattern. The fabric and even the detailing on the hem are beautiful! Why haven’t I worn it? Well….after trying it on this morning, I remembered.

I’m. Not. Happy. With. The. Fit….its a fashion funeral.

At the time of purchase, I was caught up in the airy, woodland, magical fashionable fantasy that is Anthropologie. Their clothing is named usually (yes, how wonderful is that!) and this one was called the Splendid Celebration skirt. How could I turn that down?

I wanted to have a splendid celebration and look fabulous in this skirt while doing it! Unfortunately, after the fairy dust had cleared…I realized the skirt was really not for me. Add in a dash of “I’m too lazy to return it” and voila…a beautiful skirt becomes closet clutter.

Regardless, I resolved to wear the skirt today and it actually fit well enough. I eeked out a couple of suitable pictures and I did get a few compliments also.

Since this worked out so well, I might just give the skirt a second try and bring it out from its hiding spot in my closet for good. Xoxo…Cortneybre…

A Beautiful Brooch…

Brooch: Hobby Lobby

Brooch: Hobby Lobby

I find that I very often put together my entire outfit based upon one item that I feel I just MUST wear that day.  Today was one of those days.

I bought this lovely brooch at Hobby Lobby, which is an arts and crafts store I frequent more than my wallet allows. I was very pleasantly surprised to find this beautiful piece and thoughts of how to style it have been on my mind for several days. (Buy the brooch here!)

It’s a big brooch and I thought I’d wear it as I would a statement necklace – with minimal accompanying jewelry. I chose to pair it with an easy to wear (and some days I need that!) black romper and white cotton blouse. I completed the look with leopard print, kitten heels (the perfect shoe combination) for a bit of pizzazz.

Bag Fabulous!

Today’s post is all about the bag! I recently went on a mini shopping spree at a local Kate Spade outlet. It was my Mother’s Day present from my honey hubby and I indulged myself by purchasing three bags.

Before I went shopping, I decided I needed a strategy because… honestly…if left to my own devices in a Kate Spade store, I could either buy way too much and blow my budget or buy absolutely nothing at all. Buying nothing at all isn’t due to not finding a plethora of items I want, desire and covet.

No..no…it is due to being so totally overwhelmed and essentially star struck (yes, I know it’s sad that I’m star struck by a store full of purses) that I become indecisive and essentially purchasing paralyzed. This happens to me all the time at Barnes and Noble. I must go in with a plan or I wander aimlessly down aisle after aisle until I’m so exhausted I leave empty handed. I’m sure there is some sort of “syndrome” for this…but I’ve yet to label myself with some “-ism” and prefer to attack with a plan instead!

Back to my plan….my plan was to buy two to three bags that were unlike what I already own. I’m working on building a collection and I’ve covered several looks and needs with the bags I have purchased previously. Soooo…I was looking for different colors, different shapes and possible different sizes although I prefer a larger bag typically. I will say, I feel I was quite successful in the execution of such a plan, yes…quite successful. See that pop of color dangling from my hands!

Notice the details…notice the colors….notice the absolute awesomeness of the chain and…not to be missed…the detail on the clasp! It is a bag unlike any other of my collection! Be still my beating heart but isn’t it a lovely piece of leather?!

I did buy two other fab.u.lous bags….one of which has been featured in this week’s earlier posts. I love them too and they also move me forward in completing my collection. Hope you guys have a great Mother’s Day weekend! Xoxo…Cortneybre…
